asking the "chef "

talk to me

pay now or pay later. that's a highly cliche phrase my husband & i have adopted when it comes to our diet. we've been inspired by Mens Health, Eat This NOT That section & Jamie Oliver. we have decided early on that healthy food can be enjoyed day in and day out but is fully a choice no one will make for you. it's not about eating lettuce or flavorless dishes, it's about not eating foods with ridiculous ingredients that will give us diseases one-day. not to mention we've discovered in the first 5 months of our marriage that we feel so much better just by choosing vegetables and home-cooked meals rather than eating out. we haven't quite worked in a rigorous exercise routine, although that is what we are working towards. eating wisely and choosing healthy and even organic when possible is our preferred way of living. all the best to you as i share how we are progressing along this adventure of cooking at home, eating healthy meals and eventually being able to pass this along to our kiddos when we have them. so, here's to you and eating your OWN food with us.

sunday in mountain view is the farmers market.

it’s a few short steps from out house, a little over a mile, but we drive in for now until we can get little city bikes with baskets.  mountain view farmers market is rated one of the best in silicon valley, and i’m going to go ahead and second that, even though i’ve yet to discover any other little markets in nearby towns. most vendors are organic, some items are a bit pricey however, you can find some pretty sweet deals!

today i managed to score a 1/2 flat of the most delicious strawberries for $6.00!!! half in the refrige, and the other half frozen for later. also 2 lbs. of green beans  prepped blanched and frozen for a later date.

weekly tradition accomplished!
until next sunday…

in the meantime…. dinners and desserts for the week will be the topics

soooooooooo I took quite the hiatus!  back in business however in “The Bay Area!”
welcome to my life of loving food! not only do i love to create healthy meals at home, I do just as much love eating out when it’s really good! quick note: texas hardly has any unique fun little food places, at least not in Dallas, California on the other hand is a wealth of opportunity!

i look forward to sharing as the food endeavor continues! thank-you to those who have been faithfully awaiting my return to the world of blogging :)

salad is easy in general, but this one requires no measuring and no thinking really, just tasting! don’t cut yourself when you are doing all the prep work either.

one of my favorite types of pasta is ORZO. it looks a bit like rice. of course i found a package at Sprouts that i like, which only has organic ingredients. (check out their website for store specials menus, and some fun healthy notes.) this is my favorite place to grocery shop by the way…

just add the following to taste in a mixing bowl:
*basil
*red & yellow pepper
*onion
*feta cheese

stir and drizzle with olive oil, and a few squeezes of lemon juice and a pinch of salt & pepper. then add orzo.
(boiled and cooled off under cold running water, then drained.)

mix and chill in the refridge until you are ready to eat.
prep time about 5 minutes not counting about 15 to cook the pasta.

enjoy eating out… outside that is. this lovely little salad will go great with any dinner out on the patio tonight!
